UPF 50+ is the rating on every shirt on this shelf, and it means the knit lets through about two percent of the sun’s UV while it is dry and unstretched. That is the useful part of the number. Wearing the shirt is the other half. The women’s rash guard is cut long enough to sit over a swimsuit or a pair of shorts, cinched at the sides on some pairs so it reads as a tunic, with a quarter zip at the neck and, on the newer cut, a pocket. It wicks, it dries in the sun in the time it takes to eat lunch, and it goes in the machine. The swim shorts are the biker short in a swim knit with a liner: high waist, side pockets, a 5-inch leg. The swim bra and the one-piece have adjustable straps and a racerback. The men’s and boys’ sun shirts are here because a family goes to the same beach.
