A tennis dress is three garments that have agreed to be one. Underneath, a pair of shorts with a pocket on each thigh, where a ball and a phone go. Over them, a bra with removable pads. And over both, the dress, a four-way stretch knit that gives on a serve and comes back. The straps adjust at the back, which is what makes one cut fit two women of the same size with different shoulders. You put it on in one motion and you add nothing under it but underwear.
